Need Some Help

My near 3 yr. old boys cannot for the life of them seem to figure out how to blow their nose. I feel like I've tried many things to teach them the concept of blowing OUT of their nose. They don't get it. Are they too young or am I missing something in my instruction?
Any suggestions?

Hi, Briana! We haven't met, but I read your blog via my sister's blog, Beth Young. I taught 3 year olds for 2 years and could NEVER teach them to blow their noses. My job would've been a lot easier if they would've caught on :) Good luck, but I would probably wait a little longer. Take care :)

Ha, that's funny that my sister wrote. I told Gabe to blow air out of his mouth, then I told him to close his mouth with one hand and try and blow some air out his nose and slowly it started working. he still spits a bit when he blows his nose, but he kind of can blow his nose :-)

Maybe have them sit at the table, cover their mouths, and try to blow some bits of paper off the table by forcing air out their nose. It would give them a task to accomplish, so they might be more motivated to figure it out. It might be best taught when they don't have a runny nose, though! I'll have to try it myself with Sarah.

I'm with Kathleen. I read somewhere that you can have them blow air through their nose to push a straw across the table. You do it first. Ditto on the no runny nose!
