"What's Her Name?"

This is the question I hear at least two or three times a day. It could be the woman scanning our groceries at the grocery store, or the lady across the street walking her dogs. It could be the people we see in the picture book we're reading. Today, it was the woman checking out our library books at the drive thru window. As I'm pulling away from the window I hear Judah ask from the back, "Mom, what's her name?"

Me: "I don't know, honey. Maybe when we come next time we can ask her or look at her name tag."

Judah: "Can I give her a name?"
(I usually tell the boys that they may make up a name for the person if there's no way for me to find out or as in the case of random people in a picture book, they don't have an assigned name.)

Me: "Sure Judah, you may give her a name."

Judah: "Can I call her Charlene?"

We know no one named Charlene. There is no video or TV program they watch with a Charlene in it to my knowledge. I have never said the name Charlene....ever. Where he came up with this one, I will never know. But, it made me chuckle at his creativity. Can't wait to hear what he names his children one day!

Bri, where is this supposed to link to? It's not working, fyi.

no link, Danielle...just a busy mom who was trying to write a blog post while her children were still awake. Silly me...what was I thinking?

Ha ha! I thought the title was supposed to be a link to something! ;)

Very cute story!

Charlene. I love it. It's actually an excellent and creative name for a cat. For some reason, I think naming animals peoples names is ridiculously funny. Like Jennifer.

Charlene, so cute.

I remember when Joshua was about Judah's age he told me (after I asked what they would name their own kids) he wanted twins named Steve and Bruce. I still laugh every time I think of the name Bruce.

Laurie, that is great. Steve and Bruce. I laughed out loud at that one! Although, my dad is named Bruce. Which is kind of funny, too :-)

Babel of Tower. Hilarious! And I love the name Charlene. I wanted to use it for a girl (after my grandpa Charles Ross) but Paul had already picked out a name for his first daughter while he was still a single man without a wife. Sarah Grace would be daughter #1. As we all know, there is no second girl, no Charlene!

"Single man without a wife" is redundant, huh?

That is one cute story! I work with a Charlene...but that may have been the first time I really knew of someone with that name...it's amazing he came up with that on his own. I'm impressed.
